Andrew Sullivan Bitchslaps Joe Solmonese
"The Human Rights Campaign has twenty years of zero acheivement for gay rights in Washington, D.C., yet now they have a Democratic Congress and a Democratic President committed in the campaign, and they’ve given him eight years to do anything. And it’s pathetic. They’re basically the battered wife of the Democratic party establishment, and it’s time they walked out the door." – Andrew Sullivan
No one is happy about Obama’s speech at the Human Rights Campaign, or about the administration’s pussyfooting in general. We’re even less happy that the HRC is slobbering over Obama’s hot, rippling charisma in lieu of constructive lobbying, which is what, I thought, we were paying them to do. President Obama thought that addressing the HRC would build up enough respect for himself in the gay community that we would forget about his administration kicking the gay rights can down the road every chance they get. I think his speech has done nothing but raise awareness of the HRC’s total uselessness and further raise the ire of the gay community against that black hole for donations and even against the man who Rachel Maddow once coined, “Advocate in Chief,” President Obama.
By attempting to address gay America from the podium at the Human Rights Campaign, Obama has hurt both himself and the HRC.
The gay community has had enough promises. We want action, and we want action now.

Feh, Obama and the HRC are both great for one another – they let those whom they promised to serve down and are full of crap. HRC with the trans community and Obama with the LGBT community.

It is strange hearing about the HRC thing – considering I didn’t know ANYTHING about the LGBT political situation in america before June or July and I have learned about the ENDA problems in 08, Being up on Atheist blogs during last years election I had known about the Obama LGBT promises and have felt the disappointment at absolutely nothing substantial happening. Even with it not effecting me personally (UK here.)
