People From My Town Are Still Idiots

I posted last month on a student who took home Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower from school.  His father, you will remember, was able to make the school publicly apologise, punish the teacher who loaned his son’s girlfriend the book and put the book under review for banishment.

The book, it has been decided after a month of deliberation and protest, will not be banned.

However, because the book is so controversial, students (remember:  This is high school, not elementary school.) must have parental permission before they are allowed to read it.

Update:

Cave Spring District school board representative Fuzzy Minnix disagreed with the ruling to keep the book in the schools.

"There is a moral obligation I feel like I have to stand up for," he said. "There are certain parts of literature, in my mind, that don’t support healthy, in good taste, moral, sound education to prepare our students to go out into the world."

I just realised that this is my county district!  If anyone in the Cave Spring district of Roanoke County wants to run against incumbent Fuzzy Minnix and needs a free field director and marketing guy, hit me up.
