Would This Be Seen as the Doctrine of Manifest Surgery?

Yesterday, I was reading an article on the Huffington Post about a very interesting topic. Apparently, Jeremiah Raymond Berry was convicted for murdering his father and sentenced “to three years in a Colorado Department of Corrections facility followed by 10 years of ‘intense supervised’ probation”. But it gets more interesting as Jeremiah claims that his father told him that God told him “he had been told by God his son needed a sex change to become his wife”. The early Americans thought they should expand from sea to shining sea because “God wanted them to” and they called this idea manifest destiny. Maybe since “God” told Jack Berry that his son needed a sex change so that he can become his wife, this could be referred to as “manifest surgery”, no? I swear, it is almost as crazy as Quiverfull and Andrea Yates. [Read more →]

This is Oz – making Australia a place where everyone belongs.

This Is Oz is an online photo gallery where people can help fight discrimination against Australia’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) community. Part art project, part human rights campaign, This Is Oz is all about making Australia a place where everyone belongs. The project was developed in conjunction with ACORN, The City of Sydney, The Diversity Council of Australia and many more.

To put a smile on your gaytheist face, I have selected a few of my favourite photos:

Morning Link Dump for 30 Sept. 09

Science:

This caught my eye and then instantly disappointed me.  [Billionaire clown heads for space station]  It’s actually not about Richard Branson!  It’s about a real clown.  Imagine that!

Phil Plait weighs in on a misleading Daily Mail article that insinuates that an HPV vaccine killed a young girl.  [Girl dies shortly after vaccine shot]  Best part:  “Man dies after reading the Daily Mail” LOL

My city is swarming with Flying Mexican Pig AIDS!  However, our local newspaper gets it right:  Don’t be an idiot – get vaccinated. [Southwest Virginia readies for flu]  No anti-vax nonsense here!

Gay Rights:

Lt. Col. Fehrenbach, who you’ve seen on the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC, was kicked out of the Air Force under Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.  Turns out, he was outed to the USAF by admitting to consensual gay sex in order to clear his name from a false rape allegation.  [False rape allegation forces gay US soldier to out himself]  Heartless pricks!

Faghag in Chief, Hillary Clinton is going to personally bitchslap every homophobe on the planet.  [Clinton: U.S. to Fight Antigay Violence Worldwide]  “Through our annual human rights report, we are documenting human rights abuses against LGBT communities worldwide.”  She’s making a list and checking it twice, bitches!

Politics:

Obama installs exit signs on the Iraqi border.  [US speeding up military withdrawal from Iraq]  Hopefully this time it’s more than just talk.

Politico reports that there is no hope for a rational Republican party at any point in the future.  Never ever.  [Republican base still wild about Sarah Palin]  Apparently ignorance is not only bliss, it’s also the road to power.

Iran President Mahmoud I’madinnerjacket is adamant about having the right to build a nuclear bomb since no one on the planet is insane enough to sell him one.  [Iran insists on 'nuclear rights' ]  He was also kind enough to let the Swiss visit three Americans who accidentally entered the country while hiking and were taken immediately prisoner.  [Iran allows visit to US detainees]  How nice of him to let the Swiss visit three of the United States’ people who are being held indefinitely without reasonable cause!  He’s such a generous old fuck.

Atheism/Religion:

[Mr. Deity and Da Man] Not much to say.  Just LOL.

I don’t know where the hell Saskatoon is, but they’ve got Atheist busses now!  They’re really well designed too!  [Atheist Bus Campaign in… Saskatoon!]  So… hooray for all the godless Saskatoonians! …  Saskatooners?  Saskatites???

The Vatican is pissed that they’re known worldwide as an organisation that employs, harbours and protects paedophiles from the law.  They just want to remind everyone that other types of Christians rape kids too!  Oh… and the gays are responsible for all of this somehow.  [Sex abuse rife in other religions, says VaticanButterfliesAndWheels.com says, “They all do it! Protestants do it even more! And it’s only faggots who do it in our church so shut up!”

The Passion of Andrea Yates

Many people, mostly people in power, politics or mental institutions, er I mean churches, claim that the god of the Christian Bible speaks to them and that they have a personal relationship with him. Well, I would have to say that while I appreciate your attempt to brainwash me with your Jesus bullshit as much as I would appreciate being locked in prison for writing, I am going to have to pass on your offer. The reason why is because I do not wish to take up the road to total psychosis again, which is what Christianity offers. If you do not believe me, I should definitely give you a refresher course on a prominent Christian from the Houston vicinity that was on the news quite a lot. She honestly believed that her imaginary friend’s equally imaginary arch nemesis, Satan, spoke to her through the movie, The Matrix, and told her to murder her children in the bath tub. Her name is Andrea Yates and she is one of my favourite examples of what Christianity can do in a person because before she murdered her children because of her religious beliefs, she seemed like a very sane person. Well, that is not true either because she was talking with her imaginary friend, God, in the first place and we all know what happens to adults that hear voices. Well, okay, so not all of them become serial killers, most of them suppress their god’s command for bloodshed, or skip right past it in the Bible. [Read more →]

The Pope Isn’t Smart, He’s Just Dead

The Catholic News Agency just published an op-ed–of cource, it’s not called an op-ed:  It’s reported under the”news” tab–saying, “Benedict XVI one of the smartest Popes in history.

This, from one of the Vatican’s yes-men:

The former Vatican spokesman does not believe that the Holy Father is a cold person. “I would say the opposite. The manner in which he is moved—which is more frequent than believed—is to not react passionately in response to things,” he said.

Well that’s certainly a positive twist on this AP video from Saturday:

“Not react passionately to things?!” He’s not reacting to anything! A massive spider is making his home in the Pope’s robes while the audience falls asleep… and he just keeps on trucking. The man is so old he doesn’t even know who he is or what he’s supposed to do, other than when he’s behind the podium, he’s supposed to say whatever Grima Wormtongue tells him to.  The man is a mostly-dead puppet of the Catholic conservative extremists.

I Am Anti-Ordination for Anyone

I was reading articles on the Denver Post website, keeping abreast of what is going on in the beautiful mile high city and I came across an article about an Episcopal church shutting down because it has alienated it’s younger members. The reason that was given as to why this happened was simply because the church’s bishop refused to accept the denomination’s decision to ordain gay men and lesbians into the clergy. Of course, the article had a poll for people to respond to the article with asking the public “Do you support the ordination of gays and lesbians?”. While there were a number of options available, one important option was missing – an option that indicated disgust at the act of ordination itself. You see, I am opposed to gay men and lesbians being ordained into the Episcopal church simply because I am opposed to ANYONE being ordained into the Christian church. I am deeply opposed to the intellectual dishonesty that Christianity as a whole encourages and I am saddened that the gay community or people in it would willingly throw away their sanity to the church. I firmly believe that as we are marginalized by the Christian religion, we are lucky, we are safe and I intend to explain why as we go into the article. [Read more →]

Why I Talk About Transsexuality and Religion

Some people wonder why it is that I speak so negatively about religion and why it is that I have the audacity to insult their religious beliefs. However, I have to say that talking about religion and it’s connection with transsexuality, or rather, it’s transphobia, is important to our community on so many different levels. First off, it helps us to remember our struggle against religion and what they have done to us. It also helps us to know who our allies truly are and who are just pretending so that their member numbers, and thus profit, can increase. I also want to touch on what can happen when you bring together fundamentalist Christianity with a transsexual woman, truly a scary sight to behold. Finally, I want to touch on how we, as transsexuals, are fortunate that Christianity is antagonistic towards who we are as people. [Read more →]

Muchas Gracias!

We’re still getting started here and there’s still a list of kinks to be worked out, but The Gaytheists have really hit the ground running! I think I speak on behalf of all of The Gaytheists when I say we’re overwhelmed with the amount of support we’ve received so far.

I just want to list a few people who have been helpful and supportive and then I’ll shut up.

First and foremost, a big thanks to my dear friend Adrian Hayter, the Atheist Blogger, who is letting us use space on his server for the low, low price of a handjob in the back of his creepy, windowless panel van parked on the banks of the River Thames.  I will be naming my first son after him.

Thanks is also due to several fantastic people who linked to us in the first couple days of our existence as a blog:  Hemant Mehta, the Friendly Atheist, who made me blush when he called the concept of the site “perfect“; Richard Hughes of the Young Australian Skeptics who called us “fabulous” in a totally non-ironic way and linked to us twice; and Jack Scanlan of the Young Australian Skeptics who, on his own blog, Homologous Legs, accused me of having “prowess“.  Thanks to all of them for sending readers our way!

I also want to personally thank my co-authors.  Derek Rodgers, Jessica Sideways and Jason Ball have been wonderful folks to work with these past few days and I’m looking forward to working with the other authors who have been invited to write here.  They’re all wonderful people whose enthusiasm really gives me hope for the direction this blog is heading.

And, as corny as this sounds, tremendous thanks are due to you, the reader.  Reader, you are the light of my life and everything you do brings a little more happiness into the world.  Your body odor smells like a brilliant aromatic bouquet of peaches and wildflowers and your farts smell like adorable puppy breath.  Instead of reading the preceding 333 words here, you could have been delving into that Dostoevsky novel you’ve been meaning to read or raising your children to not join gangs, but instead, you chose to spend your time with us.  And for that, I am eternally grateful.

No… Just No.

I’m sorry, but I can’t stand this shit any longer.

There’s a poll up on Facebook called “should obama be killed?”

poll kill o

The results are incredibly disturbing.

pollresults

should obama be killed ?

yes
31 (7.8%)

maybe
11 (2.8%)

if he cuts my health care
7 (1.8%)

no
347 (87.6%)

What the fucking fuck?!

Almost 8% of those polled definitely think that someone should assassinate President Barack Obama.  Almost 3% aren’t sure if he should be assassinated or not.  Almost 2% are willing to say they would want the President to be assassinated if he, “cuts their healthcare,” which he isn’t going to do.
